What is DermaPen Skin Needling?:
Dermapen is an automated-micro needling therapy system that vertically pierces the skin to naturally stimulate collagen and elastin with minimal epidermal damage. This enhances rejuvenation results and is far safer for the patient because there is much less epidermal damage. The Dermapen's automatic vibrating function increases the effectiveness of treatment by increasing absorption of products, while reducing pain and discomfort. Dermapen's multi-speed and adjustable needle depths allows the needles to pierce the skin's layers at 90 degrees and increases the effectiveness of treatments by increasing the absorption of products. Dermapen can effectively treat hard-to-reach places, like around the eyes, nose, and lips, because of the vertical delivery, the needles can easily penetrate scar tissue.
The mechanism of injury is a natural process. Four major phases of the wound response help in stimulating new healthy tissue growth. First, an inflammatory response (1-3 days), to the initial injury promotes the chemotaxis response and proliferation of fibroblasts. The body's platelets also respond to initiate a wound matrix. This response is the early phase of cell migration to remove debris and bacteria and stimulate the next proliferative phase. During the second phase (3-5 days), the new fibroblasts, monocytes, keratinocytes of the first phase continue to proliferate and multiply. New collagen will be laid down and deposited with new tissue formation. Next a fibrotic response (5-20 days), of growth factors are released and fibroblasts release collagen. Finally, the maturation stage of new healthy skin takes place from day 28 to two years after treatment. Collagens mature and stiffen and the matrix of new tissue shows 80% to full tensile strength.
Scars are areas of fibrous tissue (fibrosis) that replace normal skin after injury. A scar results from the process of wound repair in the skin and other tissues of the body. Scar tissue is the same protein (collagen) as the tissue that it replaces, but the fiber composition of the protein is different. Instead of a nice "basket weave" formation of fibers, the collagen in scar tissue is aligned in a single direction resulting in a pronounced and thicker appearance. The Dermapen treatment can provide drastic results improving the appearances of the scars. The micro needles of the Dermapen create new collagen and elastin to be generated and deposited called collagenesis, however the added benefit of new capillary growth is also a result which can improve blood supply to the area which helps create healthier existing skin as well as provide a healthy foundation for the new skin. The physical nature of "skin-needling" breaks up this fibrous and uneven scar tissue and stimulates the growth of new tissue.
A burn is a type of injury to flesh caused by heat, electricity, chemicals, light, radiation, or friction. Most burns affect only the skin (epidermal tissue and dermis). When skin is burned, the surrounding skin begins to pull together, resulting in a contracture. These scars thicken over time. Burn scar therapy has been historically limited. The Dermapen's unique vertical stamping and depth control up to 2.5mm makes treating burn scars superior to other methods or rollering. With surgical steel integrity, the robust nature of the automated needle tip (eleven needles total and sized at thirty-three guage) penetrate difficult burn scar tissue dramatically improving appearance, texture, elasticity, size, and mobility.
Stretch marks are a form of scarring on the skin with an off-color hue. They are caused by tearing of the dermis, and over time can diminish but not disappear completely. Stretch marks are often the result of the rapid stretching of the skin associated with rapid growth. The use of the Dermapen uses the bodies natural solution for unsightly stretch marks. New collagen growth and stimulation is more effective for reducing and fading stretch marks. The Dermapen device allows for appropriate treatment needle depth to activate the cascade of fibroblast and growth hormone steps to generate more skin, collagen and elastin for smooth and healthy colored skin. The skin of the epidermis effectively thickens and noticeable smoother and evening of stretch marks is the result.
A wrinkle is a fold, ridge, or crease in the skin. Skin wrinkles typically appear as a result of the aging processes resulting in a thinning of the epidermal layers of the skin as they lose the ability to retain moisture. Wrinkling in the skin is caused by habitual facial expressions, aging, sun damage, smoking, poor hydration, and various other factors. The dermal layer of the skin thins and produces less and less collagen over time. Underlying the dermal layer of the skin is the subcutaneous layer which consists of fat cells which shrink with age and become less able to support the upper layers of the skin which make wrinkles even more noticeable.
